Fact #12

Well the reason why I'm not sleeping...I'm getting weaned off of my migraine medicine. And I hate it. I have been suffering from migraines since I was 23. And I get about 2-5 a month. Tyl.enol, Adv.il, Exce.drin and so many more over the counter drugs use to help them. I've tried prescription drugs that I would take as soon as I would feel one come on. But they contain Tripitan....which I'm allergic to. My jaw would go numb and tingly. So then I moved onto sleeping pills. Which worked fine, and like everything else, they started not working and my migraines were getting worse. They have been so bad, that out of the 6 personal days I'm allotted a year at work, I have been down to 2 since June! Thankfully my job offers Flex time and I can make up to a maximum of 4 hours a week. So I went back to the Dr. and she gave me 3 options of medicine to try...blood pressure, anti-seizure, and anti-depressant...none of them made me excited, but I'm desperate to try anything. So anti-depressant it was...the side effects were awful...insomnia, weight gain (a lot), loss of appetite etc...but those slowly went away. So since June my migraines were reduced from 2-5 per month to 7 from June to present date. I've never felt better. The best part is if I had a migraine, Adv.il would actually work! The weight gain and some daily side effects made me decide it wasn't worth it. So I spoke to my Dr and she gave me a schedule on how to get weaned. I was game. I was excited... OMG! The withdrawal and body shock symptoms I've been having has literally been hell! I've been dizzy and lightheaded for 3 weeks...thankfully that has stopped. I was sad, uncoordinated, and would cry at the drop of the hat. I was having the so called "brain zaps" at night, I've been having some really crazy and realistic dreams that have caused me to freak out and stay awake b/c I'm too scared to go back to sleep. I'm having hot flashes left and right... It just plain sucks! Now I don't know what I'm going to do when I get a migraine...I might try the homeopathic/herbal route, or even a chiropractor or acupuncture...I don't know. I'm pretty much at my witt's end and desperate to get these migraine's under control...they are by far one of the worst things I have experienced.

Prescription drugs are so risky, best of luck to you. I only get on occasional migraine, but I take Ibuprofen and put ice on the back of my head (at the base of my neck). It works good enough for me (alleviates the worst of it anyhow).

If the anti-depressants seemed to work, I wonder if the endorphins that your body releases during exercise could possibly help long term. I know you hate to exercise, but you should do a 1-month trial and see if exercising a few times a week helps.

Just a thought - I know it's tough to make time

Drinking water would probably help.

Amber-Ibuprofen no longer works either. But I also use ice on my temple and the back of my neck. My migraines are only on the left side of my face...behind my left eye, temple, in my left ear, left side of my neck...
Julie-You are so right. I do need to exercise and I'm gonna try and kick my behind in gear to see if that helps...

Amanda I can be your exercise buddy. We can pick 3 days a week where we have to exercise. I'll hold you to it. Let me know what you think. You can make a public announcement on your blog, then you'll HAVE to do it!
