Sooner or later
Let me set the scene:
Hanging out at Corey's sister and BIL's house with their friends. I brought Andersen. He was running around, wreaking havoc and having fun. I was more nervous that he was driving Micah, Corey's sister, and their guests crazy because he is one rambunctious kid. Well he was standing outside not paying attention and all of a sudden the two small dogs that were playing came running towards him and wiped his legs out from underneath him. He fell on his back and immediately said "I broke my arm"...now this caught me off guard because 1) how does he know what that means 2) how does he know it was broken? So I pick him up and calm him down. I look at his arm and didn't see or feel anything wrong. He was able to move his fingers and arm.
So about 30 minutes later he starts to complain about his arm and won't move it at all. If you know Andersen, this is not normal. He's one tough kid and never complains of his owie's.
I decided to take him to Children's Hospital. I called Kevin and he said just take him and let him know. But after putting him in his car seat and dealing with the bloody murder screams, I realize this isn't some kind of bruise or sprain. So I call Kevin again and tell him I'm going to pick him up.
We get there and are seen immediately.
He will not let anyone touch his elbow and will not let Kevin sit him on the bed or move him in any way. So we go back for x-ray and that was hard because Kevin had to hold him on his lap and I had to hold his good arm and his body so he wouldn't move. Again, blood curdling screams are induced. It was hard for me not to cry. But I had to remind myself to keep calm and not get upset for Andersen.
So they come back and tell us he broke his supracondylar humerus, right about his elbow joint. Thankfully it was small, but still bad enough for a cast.
So they placed 1/2 a cast and ace bandage from his shoulder down to his wrist. This again, caused screams and crocodile tears. And again Kevin and I both had to hold him still and soothe him at the same time.
After he received his 1/2 cast I decided to take pictures. Andersen asked to see it, so I proceeded to show him and he says "Mommy, what's wrong with my hair?"...Really? Of all the things in that picture, you're worried about your hair? It must have been the Motrin or adrenaline talking, but that definitely helped ease the moment.
So, Andersen, has his first broken bone. He's milking the attention and care for what it's worth. But I also know he's in a lot of pain because he won't move it at all.
He goes in on Wednesday to get his full cast and must wear it up to 4 weeks.
Let's hope he doesn't pick out a pink or purple one!
